Authorities in Hertfordshire are planning a trial of 70cm (28in)-long wheeled delivery robots that would operate on the footways and pavements of Stevenage.
A meeting of Hertfordshire County Council’s highways cabinet panel was told that the robots can navigate with the aid of cameras, sensors and GPS, and can even cross busy roads by asking passers-by to help them by activating a pedestrian crossing, if necessary, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.
The robots are to operate in a geofenced area mapped to account for safety, accessibility, rights of way and land ownership.
