Wholesale inflation in the United States eased in June 2026 as energy costs fell on hopes of a lasting resolution to the Middle East war, government data showed on Wednesday. However, fighting has since resumed in the region.
The US Producer Price Index (PPI) for final demand dropped by 0.3 per cent month-on-month, marking the first such contraction since August 2025, according to the Bureau of Labour Statistics.
Compared with a year ago, the PPI was up 5.5 per cent last month, a smaller increase than the 6.0 per cent uptick recorded in May.
Despite the positive print, economic analysts warn that the relief might be short-lived.
