NEW YORK – Top athletes, musicians and Hollywood stars will gather to recognize the best from the past year in sports on Wednesday, July 15 for ESPN's 2026 ESPYs.Hosted by comedian Marcello Hernandez, ESPN's annual sports awards show brings together people from across the sports landscape to celebrate the top athletes, plays and moments from the last year. Traditionally held in Los Angeles, the awards show was moved to the David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center in New York this year.People who have made significant contributions to their sport and community are also honored with the Arthur Ashe Award for Courage, the Jimmy V Award for Perseverance, the Pat Tillman Award for Service and the Muhammad Ali Sports Humanitarian Award.This year, as previously announced, former NBA player Jason Collins will be posthumously awarded the Arthur Ashe Award, while former MLB pitcher Jim Abbott will receive the Jimmy V Award. Scott Ruskan will be honored with the Pat Tillman award.ESPYs red carpet begins to come aliveThe red carpet sits on the Josie Robertson Plaza at the Lincoln Center. It’s far from the first red carpet to be at the venue this year: “The Devil Wears Prada 2” also held its red carpet on the plaza in May. The plaza was also transformed in June for the premiere of Steven Spielberg’s “Disclosure Day.” That premiere took place on the same evening as Game 3 of the NBA Finals at Madison Square Garden.– Ralphie AversaRain delays pre-ESPYs festivities in New YorkA torrential downpour on New York's Upper West Side has already slightly delayed festivities. Arrivals were supposed to begin at 5:30 but with the red carpet outdoors, media members are currently in a holding area. The telecast begins at 8 p.m. and as with any awards show, seat fillers will take the place of guests of honor who aren’t in the venue by the show’s start.– Ralphie AversaBest NFL player: Myles GarrettGarrett was bestowed the honor of Best NFL player, which was announced on NFL Live ahead of the ESPYs broadcast. Garrett generated an NFL-record 23 sacks for the Cleveland Browns last season and was traded to the Los Angeles Rams during the 2026 offseason for a package involving Jared Verse and multiple draft assets.– Jacob CamenkerBest NBA player: Jalen BrunsonESPN allowed its NBA Today crew to announce the winner of its Best NBA player award.
