Shares of companies in the energy sector fell as oil prices hovered around $80 a barrel while the U.S. and Iran battled for control of the Strait of Hormuz.
U.S. crude oil inventories fell last week as exports picked up from the week before and refineries raised their capacity use, according to data released by the U.S. Energy Information Administration.
