Greece’s plans to prepare Andravida Air Base for the arrival of F-35 fighter jets are moving forward, with the first aircraft expected to reach the country by 2028, according to a source who spoke to Kathimerini.
The source said the program is progressing smoothly and remains on schedule.
Upcoming infrastructure projects are expected to transform the 117th Combat Wing at Andravida into what officials describe as the country’s most modern air base, capable of hosting fifth-generation fighter aircraft.
Kathimerini understands that representatives of the US government’s F-35 Joint Program Office are currently meeting with representatives of four major Greek construction groups.
After undergoing security reviews required by the US side, the companies will be eligible to participate in the tender process for the base’s infrastructure projects.
