Donald Trump wants to end the biannual clock-switching madness. Republicans, who tend to do whatever he wants, control both chambers of Congress. The GOP needs a win before the midterms, and this is the rare issue that cuts across party lines. A poll last year found only 12 percent of U.S. adults like the current system, and 47 percent are opposed. And now the House has passed the Sunshine Protection Act, which would make daylight saving time permanent.

So is it finally happening? Can we all forget the phrase “spring forward, fall back” forever?
