Zelenskyy did not reiterate his bid for the EU to put a date on joining
KYIV – EU member states should move “as soon as possible” to advance Ukraine’s membership bid to the next official stage, Ursula von der Leyen, the European Commission president, said on Wednesday.
Von der Leyen said Ukraine has done enough “homework” to merit opening formal talks about joining the EU’s single market, by opening negotiations on the second of six so-called clusters of reforms.
“It’s ready to be open because some of the work was already done by Ukraine,” she said at a press conference at the Ukrainian Parliament, alongside Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the country’s president.
Her comments heavily suggest that when all 27 EU countries agree, this cluster – covering freedom of goods, people and services – will be the next to be opened.
