Old foes England and Argentina are set to clash in a massive World Cup semi-final on Wednesday.

If anything is to go by from England’s previous five meetings with Argentina at the FIFA World Cup, the Three Lions could reach the final of the global showpiece at the expense of the champions for the first time since they were champions 60 years ago.

England have beaten Argentina in three of their five meetings, with victories in the group stage in 1962, the quarter-finals in 1966, and the group stage in 2002. Argentina, meanwhile, beat England in the quarter-final in 1986 and the Round of 16 in 1998.

Considering that the two teams have exchanged wins in successive meetings at the global showpiece, and with England having won the last encounter 24 years ago, the odds may tip in their favour to get another result over La Selección.

And that is not all. The Three Lions are eager to ensure they make up for lost time and avenge the 2-1 defeat to Argentina 40 years ago in Mexico – which are this year’s co-host – when Diego Maradona shattered their hearts with the “Hand of God” in the quarter-final.
