A Muslim mall employee in Utah was stabbed multiple times in a religiously motivated attack at Valley Fair Mall in West Valley City.

The suspect, Peter Michael Larsen, 48, was apprehended by bystanders who pinned him to the ground and removed the knife before police arrived.

Mr Larsen, who was on parole for a previous felony charge, has been charged with attempted murder and prohibited conduct whilst in possession of a weapon.

The victim, identified as Sohail, suffered over 15 stab wounds and remains in critical condition, requiring multiple surgeries on his hands, heart and lungs.
