England take on Argentina in the World Cup semi-finals and the only Liverpool player involved in the game is Alexis Mac Allister, who the Premier League club shared a post about pre-match17:56, 15 Jul 2026Updated 17:56, 15 Jul 2026Liverpool have been slammed by hundreds of football fans for a 'disgraceful' post in the build-up to England's clash with Argentina at the World Cup. The two teams meet in Wednesday's semi-final, with the only Liverpool player left in the tournament being Argentina's Alexis Mac Allister. The Liverpool midfielder lifted the World Cup in 2022 while he was a Brighton player and remains a key part of Lionel Scaloni's side. Since the beginning of the tournament, Liverpool have shared a post on their social media channels on the day of a match which involves one of their players. And in keeping with that tradition, the Premier League club posted on Wednesday morning: "Macca and Argentina take on England for a place in the #FIFAWorldCup final." The post included a flexed arm emoji and the Argentine flag. But it didn't go down well with England supporters. "This is an absolute disgrace," one fan fumed on X. "Absolutely horrendous post from LFC," a second wrote.FOLLOW OUR LIVERPOOL FB PAGE! People need to really have a day off."Another said: "Look at the response to the club just mentioning one of our players is playing in a World Cup semi final tonight, not even a mention of wishing him luck. And yet they'll still wonder why some Liverpool fans don't feel a connection to the national team."Content cannot be displayed without consentMac Allister has never faced England before, with the nations last meeting in 2005 friendly. But the 27-year-old does know all about coming up against Premier League players, although he reckons that England are operating differently."I play against most of them every weekend and it's clear they're physically very strong," Mac Allister told a press conference. "That said, I think during this World Cup we've seen - I don't know if I'd call it fatigue or not - but they haven't played with the same intensity that characterises the Premier League."I don't know if that's because of the heat, the weather or other factors, but they're obviously a great team. We have enormous respect for them, just as we have for every national team we've faced."Will England beat Argentina? Give us your prediction in the comments section. He continued: "It's clear that the mental side is extremely important. I think, for us and for footballers in general, the mind is the most important thing.Article continues below"Obviously, there are tactical and footballing aspects that define the sport, but the most important thing is combining those two. We have great confidence in ourselves. We know exactly what we're doing, and we're not going to change our approach."Join our LFC WhatsApp community and get all the latest LFC news, views, transfer gossip and more, as it happens We also treat our community members to special offers, promotions, and adverts from us and our partners.
