Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Open University (BRAOU) has received approval from the University Grants Commission (UGC) to introduce five programmes from the current academic year. The newly-approved programmes are M.A. Education, M.A. Education (School Administration), Master of Social Work (MSW), M.Sc. Geography and the renewed B.Ed. (Special Education) programme. The approval followed a virtual inspection by a UGC expert committee in June which examined the university’s academic preparedness, infrastructure, learner support systems, digital resources and regulatory compliance.Vice-Chancellor Ghanta Chakrapani welcomed the UGC’s approval, stating that the three education-related programmes would help teachers in government and private institutions enhance their qualifications and strengthen their skills in educational leadership, school administration and management. He said the university also plans to sign a memorandum of understanding with the School Education Department to provide phased training for teachers across the State. He further observed that the MSW and M.Sc. Geography programmes are expected to attract many students from diverse academic backgrounds. The admission notifications for all the newly approved courses will be issued shortly, and admissions will begin during the current academic year. Published - July 15, 2026 08:35 pm IST
