The Hyderabad Traffic Police has registered five criminal cases in the past week against motorists allegedly using fake, tampered or unauthorised registration plates, amid a rise in citizen complaints.Police said the special enforcement drive was aimed at vehicles with fraudulent number plates being used to conceal identities and evade traffic enforcement. Multiple vehicles were also seized during the operation. The cases were registered at Jubilee Hills, Malakpet, Begum Bazaar, Abids and Kachiguda police stations. The traffic police reiterated that only government-approved High Security Registration Plates (HSRP) are permitted and warned that altered plates, missing digits and temporary stickers are illegal. Police said the use of fake or manipulated registration plates would invite criminal prosecution and immediate seizure of the vehicle. The enforcement drive will continue across the city.
