Prosecutors in Ukraine's Mykolaiv region have launched an investigation into a Russian drone attack that damaged two civilian vessels flying the flags of Liberia and the Cayman Islands, as well as a private enterprise. Two people were killed and another was injured in the attacks.
The Mykolaiv Regional Prosecutor's Office announced this on Facebook, according to Ukrinform.
The pre-trial investigations have been opened into alleged war crimes under Parts 1 and 2 of Article 438 of Ukraine's Criminal Code.
According to the investigation, at approximately 06:23 on July 15, 2026, Russian forces struck a critical infrastructure facility in the Mykolaiv district with two Shahed-238 jet-powered drones. The attack damaged two civilian vessels flying the flags of Liberia and the Cayman Islands, triggering fires on board.
A 60-year-old crew member of one of the vessels suffered multiple severe burns. He was hospitalized in critical condition but later died from his injuries.
