Péter Szijjártó speaks of a flattering offer from electric vehicle firm that made inroads in Hungary when he was in government

Hungary’s former foreign minister, Péter Szijjártó, has accepted a job offer from the Chinese electric car giant BYD, he announced on Wednesday.

Szijjártó said he had tendered his resignation from the Hungarian parliament in a post on Facebook, where he has over half a million followers.

“The reason is that I have received a very flattering offer from one of the leading companies in the global market to fill an international position,” he said.

The 47-year-old former politician largely disappeared from public life after the Fidesz party and its leader, Viktor Orbán, suffered a crushing electoral defeat to a conservative opposition running on an anti-corruption ticket.
