The district administration has declared August 3 a local holiday for all government offices and educational institutions in Namakkal district in view of the annual Valvil Orifestival to be held at Kolli Hills.The district Collector L. Madhubalan said in a press release that the State government celebrates the festival every year on the 17 and 18 of the Tamil month of Aadi to honour Valvil Ori, one of the Kadai Ezhu Vallalgal (seven great philanthropists) of the Sangam age, renowned for his valour and generosity. The festival will be held on August 2 and 3 this year. As a large number of members of the public, students, government employees and personnel from various departments are expected to visit Kolli Hills to participate in the celebrations, the district administration has declared August 3 a local holiday. To compensate for the holiday, August 8 has been declared a working day.The Collector said the holiday had not been notified under the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881, and therefore will not apply to banks.
