Jesy Nelson's ex fiance Zion Foster has broken his silence on their split and vowed to remain 'committed' to his twin daughters after previously saying he felt 'out of his depth' amid SMA diagnosis12:56, 15 Jul 2026Updated 12:57, 15 Jul 2026Jesy Nelson's ex fiance Zion Foster has vowed to stick by his daughters as he opens up about his split from the Little Mix singer amid the twins' diagnosis with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA).Foster had previously admitted to being "out of my depth" following the news that their twins, Ocean Jade and Story Monroe, had been diagnosed with the rare progressive muscle weakness condition. But he has now made it clear that when he said that, he had no intention of "walking away from mu children".Speaking on Instagram ahead of the release of Nelson's new documentary, Jesy Nelson: Life Changing, he said: "I've stayed quiet because my focus has always been where it should be, on my children."Reading some of the comments over the last few days has been incredibly painful because they simply aren't true. When I said I was ‘out of my depth’ I wasn’t saying I was walking away from my children or abandoning my responsibilities as a father."I was talking about the overwhelming reality of suddenly facing a rare and complex medical diagnosis that I knew nothing about. I was being honest. I didn't have the knowledge. I didn't have the experience. I was scared. I was trying to process emotions that no parent ever hopes to face."He added: "Being out of my depth meant I was learning. It meant I was trying to understand. I never meant I didn't love my daughters or that I wasn't going to be there for them. I love my girls more than words could ever express. They are my world and always will be."He also explained that the end of his relationship with Nelson was her choice rather than his. "Although I respect that, it does not change the fact that I remain committed to my daughters in every way I possibly can," Foster said. He continued to explain that he is attending all their medical appointments, educating himself on the condition and trying to find a way to support his children. "Being their father is the greatest responsibility and privilege of my life.""This journey has been heartbreaking for all of us," he continued. "Nobody prepares you for news like this, and we’re all navigating it in our own way.”Foster added that he feels "pain alongside Jesy" and wants the best for his daughters. He then implored viewers not to misconstrue his words. "Please don't mistake vulnerability for abandonment. Asking for helo or admitting you don't have all the answers doesn't make someone a band father. It makes them human."Foster and Nelson's twins were born prematurely in May 2025. Months later, when Nelson noticed that they were not moving the way they should, Ocean Jade and Story Monroe were diagnosed with SMA. The condition, without early detection and treatment, can severely limit a child's ability to walk. According to the NHS, it also causes muscle weakness, issues with breathing and swallowing, muscle tremors and bone and joint problems.Article continues belowNelson has been campaigning for the condition to be added to the blood spot screening all newborns get, to ensure the condition is caught early and the most devastating effects can be avoided. Her latest documentary for Prime Video, set to be released on 17 July, follows Nelson's fight to change the UK newborn screening laws. It has been described as a "raw and powerful" look at how the singer "comes to terms with what the diagnosis means for her girls, adapts to the everyday challenges of their conditions and finds her footing as a single mother after the break up of her relationship."Like this story?
