The American stock market is the behemoth you just can't ignore.
It is larger than the nine next biggest equity markets in the world combined and it is rising to new heights thanks to the ongoing boom in artificial intelligence (AI) and semiconductors.
But there are mounting fears that the colossal gains could come crashing down to earth if the AI bubble were to burst.
Ben Yearsley, of investment information group Fairview Investing, describes the US as 'the most expensive market', 'the most entrepreneurial market' and 'the hardest to beat'.
He adds: 'You need the US in your portfolio, but you have to be clever about how you play it.'
