A mum was left seething when she found out that her son's school wasn't allowing water bottle refills during lessons, despite the fact the UK is experiencing a heatwave11:41, 15 Jul 2026Updated 11:43, 15 Jul 2026The UK is seriously warm right now, with temperatures consistently above 20 degrees for weeks - and Brits are sweltering in the heat. But a group of people the population feels extremely sorry for are kids in school, often going without air conditioning and expected to wear uniforms even when it's hot.‌So when one woman's child came home from school, "dripping with sweat" and "throwing up," she was left gobsmacked to learn that her son was not allowed to refill his water bottle during lesson times - despite the fact that he could prove that he had no water left, so couldn't stay hydrated.‌In a furious Facebook post, the anonymous mum explained that her son was "made to keep [his] tie on" and was "not allowed to get water refills during their one hour 40 minute lessons".‌She completely understands that teachers don't want "distractions" during the school day, but thinks that if a child can "prove" they don't have water, they should be allowed to go and fill their bottle so they can concentrate. The mum also said she'd love to know how many teachers were "wearing ties" when the kids were expected to during the heatwave, expressing concern that the weather was staying the same for the rest of term.Content cannot be displayed without consent‌TikToker @leeshandmoo read the woman's post and pointed out that "regulations need to be put in place for schools" during extreme weather conditions, slamming schools as "wrong" for being strict on children during this weather. She questioned how it's in kids' best interests to be in school during weather conditions like this, saying some teachers get "a weird kick" out of not letting kids get drinks."Make adjustments because kids need to drink water," she fumed, continuing: "I don't care whether they are four years old or 16 years old; they all need to drink water".‌In the comments, someone wrote: "Meanwhile, in my grown-up job, I can drink as much water and pee as often as I like... but no, school prepares them for the 'real world'."A different teacher defended her school, penning: "Teacher here, we’ve allowed all water bottles on tables, refillable at any point, water stations at break, ice lollies at lunch and we are all still dying! That’s what all schools should be doing".Meanwhile, a further commenter said: "Just to think a few years ago they managed to still do school from home during Covid, like they clearly can make adjustments when it's needed, they clearly just don't want to".Article continues belowAnother mum pointed out that rules seem to be "school dependent". She wrote: "Ours are allowed to wear PE kits, air conditioning, have ice lollies and water play, relaxed learning, and water breaks every 10 mins!!"Outside in the shade for 5 minutes, and back in to the air con, allowed to stand up and stretch their legs! Couldn’t ask for more!"So, do you think schools should change their rules during a heatwave? Don't forget to leave us your thoughts in the comments section below.
