SAPS has appointed a specialised multidisciplinary team to investigate the murder of March and March Gauteng leader Andile Mvuyiselwa Somgaxa, who died days after being shot outside his Johannesburg home.
The team, appointed by Acting National Commissioner Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane in consultation with Gauteng Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni, comprises experienced detectives and Crime Intelligence officers tasked with leading the investigation into the high-profile killing.
Somgaxa was shot in the driveway of his home in Greenfield, Johannesburg, on 4 July and succumbed to his injuries in hospital five days later.
Dimpane said the formation of the specialised team reflects the seriousness with which police are treating the case.
“The appointment of a multidisciplinary team underscores the seriousness with which SAPS is treating this matter. We are committed to conducting a thorough investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding this murder and to ensure accountability,” she said.
