Lise Klaveness, President of the Norwegian Football Federation.
Norway is actively leveraging its influence within international football to lobby for Israel’s suspension from FIFA.
A recent Politico report outlined this diplomatic campaign, detailing how the Norwegian Football Federation (NFF) and its president, Lise Klaveness, continue to push for sanctions against Israel directly within the mainstream of European football.
Klaveness, a lawyer, former national Norwegian team star, and current UEFA Executive Committee member, has strictly pursued the issue through football's formal governing structures. Speaking to the media ahead of Norway's World Cup qualifier against Israel in Oslo last year, Klaveness established the federation's official position.
“We believe Israel should be suspended, and this is about upholding the rules,” Klaveness stated, firmly anchoring the NFF's actions in international sporting regulations rather than solely political sentiment.
