Indian IT giant HCLTech has announced that it will be investing Rs 35 billion ($364 million) into a new data center business.

The consultancy firm's investment will be made through a series of new subsidiaries, with total data center capacity potentially scaling to 50MW. A time frame to reach this target was not provided.

Although the company does offer certain services related to data centers, it did not have its own data center business until now.

“Our entry into the AI data center space positions us to capture the full value of this opportunity, as the industry transitions from physical infrastructure to higher-value, AI-ready solutions,” said CEO C. Vijayakumar. “Our managed services and outcome-based services to our global clients would also benefit significantly from this investment.”

Last year, HCLTech entered into a “strategic alliance” with chipmaker AMD to invest in innovation labs, training programs, workforce training, and reskilling initiatives.
