DUBAI: The Liverpool Arab Arts Festival has unveiled the program for 2026, with this year’s event exploring music, literature, film and food.
The program opens on July 17 with the return of the Al-Awhadel Band, who will perform at Liverpool’s St. George’s Hall Concert Room. Led by Yemeni oud player and composer Yaser Awdhali, the group will showcase traditional Yemeni music.
On July 18, attention turns to Sudanese culture with the Sudanese Culinary Arts and Literature event at The Black-E. Created in collaboration with the London-based Almas Art Foundation, the event combines food, storytelling and art while celebrating Sudan’s cultural heritage.
The program is centered on British-Sudanese food archivist and “The Sudanese Kitchen” author Omer Al-Tijani, whose long-running documentation project evolved into a cookbook featuring more than 100 recipes alongside oral histories and essays. Festival goers will also have the opportunity to sample Sudanese cuisine.
The festival will also continue its partnership with At the Library for a family program on July 19. “A Journey Home” will screen four short animated films from Palestine, Algeria, Egypt and Lebanon that explore identity, migration and belonging through the eyes of young protagonists.
