Sir, – Letters writers have expressed their frustration regarding the process of registering for enduring power of attorney now being only available online. Accessing information on services is clearly now being facilitated by technology. However, complaining about a service or lack of same, seeking further information, has now become almost impossible right across the board, especially and worryingly in the area of public service. This is not only frustrating, but it is denying fair access that all are entitled to. Many older people use technology, effectively, to a degree – but person-to-person contact is becoming more obsolete by the day. This is happening at a time when loneliness is a huge problem, and some people feel they don’t matter. Our service planners and politicians, in the name of justice and fair access to all, need to take heed and remember that we are after all human beings – not machines. – Yours, etc,ALICE LEAHY,Director of services,Alice Leahy Trust,Dublin 8.
