The Nigerian High Commission in Pretoria has warned Nigerians in South Africa to ignore fake social media messages claiming that registration is ongoing for the Nigerian government's voluntary repatriation programme, insisting that the exercise closed over a month ago.
In a public notice issued in Pretoria, the mission said no registration was taking place at the High Commission and cautioned Nigerians against paying money to anyone claiming to facilitate enrolment for the evacuation exercise.
"Our attention has been drawn to misleading posts currently circulating on social media informing Nigerian nationals to come to the High Commission in Pretoria under the erroneous pretext that registration for voluntary repatriation is taking place," the mission stated.
The High Commission stressed that the registration and screening process for the voluntary repatriation exercise ended on June 13, 2026, adding that any future phase would be announced only through official channels.
