Darializa Avila Chevalier, a socialist who once called Joe Biden a “war criminal”, sent shock waves through the American political establishment by winning the Democratic primary for New York’s 13th congressional district on 23 June.
Given how firmly Democratic the district is, she is almost certain to become a US House Representative next year.
