As expected, Vice President Sara Duterte is opposing the House prosecution’s move to subpoena her and her husband’s bank and Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) records, as well as the an Anti-Money Laundering Council’s (AMLC) report on them. The Vice President is married to lawyer Manases Carpio.

These financial transactions, if accessed, will form part of the prosecution team’s evidence against the Vice President, who is being tried before the Senate impeachment court.

The House has filed four articles of impeachment, or offenses which Duterte allegedly committed and which could warrant her removal from office and perpetual disqualification from holding public office.

The second article of impeachment specifically alleges that Duterte should be convicted over her alleged unexplained wealth, stemming from discrepancies between her bank records and her declared Statements of Assets, Liabilities, and Net Worth (SALN).

On Wednesday, July 15, the Senate impeachment court will decide whether to grant the House’s request for the issuance of subpoenas.
