In a bid to curb the increasing rate of gender based violence in Imo State, Amnesty International has partnered female lawyers for improved prevention and response to addressing the menace.
Speaking in Owerri Monday during a capacity building for female lawyers, the Human Rights Education Officer of Amnesty International, Helen Addah, noted that the essence of the training was to build the skills on how to address media components, information gathering, how to protect the survivors among others.
She added, “There’s need to ensure that the policies and laws on gender based violence are put into use, especially the Sexual Assault Referral Centre where survivors access all the services needed to stabilise them”.
She said the protection of human rights is key because if everything is done through the prism of human rights, many gender based violence in the state would be reduced to the barest minimum.
One of resource persons, Rosemary Hamza, pointed out that there’s need to ensure that the referral pathways for a survivor is workably provided in the state.
