Ukraine and nine European countries have launched a new anti-ballistic missile coalition aimed at strengthening Europe's defenses against ballistic missile threats while deepening defense cooperation with Kyiv. The initiative was formally unveiled during a high-level meeting in Paris on July 13, bringing together national leaders, senior EU and NATO officials, and executives from some of Europe's largest defense companies.
The coalition's founding members are Ukraine, France, Germany, Italy, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Denmark, Norway, Spain, and Sweden. According to the joint declaration adopted at the meeting, the alliance is designed to combine industrial capacity, technological expertise, operational experience, and research to create a shared European capability against ballistic missiles.
“By uniting our defense industrial base, research and operational experience, our goal is to build a shared capacity against ballistic missiles for Europe. This measure is not directed against any people, but is in defense of ours,” the declaration states.
One of the coalition's central objectives is to integrate Ukraine's defense industry with the European defense industrial and technological base involved in developing interceptor missiles and anti-ballistic systems. The partners intend to jointly create a new generation of European missile defense capabilities while expanding production capacity across the continent.
