European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos
The European Union has taken a significant step forward in its enlargement process, with Ukraine, Moldova, Albania and Montenegro making progress toward future membership, European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos said.
In a post on the social network X, Kos described the day as a “super Tuesday” for EU enlargement, noting that the bloc held four intergovernmental accession conferences on the same day for the first time in more than 20 years.
The commissioner said the four candidate countries are advancing at different stages of the accession process, with each making important steps toward closer integration with the European Union.
Ukraine and Moldova opened Cluster 6 of the accession negotiations, covering areas related to external relations, security and defense. Kos said these areas are particularly important because both countries could play a role in strengthening Europe’s security framework.
