July 14 (UPI) -- U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents have been told to stop making most traffic stops Tuesday after agents fatally shot a man on Monday.

Monday's deadly shooting was the second committed by ICE agents in the course of a week. Tuesday's order directs immigration agents to pause traffic stops and use other methods to carry out their enforcement duties.

ICE said in a statement that it is "always evaluating our procedures to keep our officers safe and criminals off the streets."

The Department of Homeland Security said in a statement that an ICE agent was "fearing for public safety" when they opened fire and the victim of the shooting "attempted to flee the scene."
