Manchester United have announced the signing of Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa.The Athletic reported on Monday that United were set to finalise a deal with Tielemans, who favoured a move to Old Trafford despite interest from elsewhere.The 29-year-old midfielder had a contract at Villa Park that ran to 2028, but it included a release clause in the region of £35million. He now joins United on a five-year contract until 2031.The arrival of Tielemans at United follows that of Andrey Santos, who joined on Monday from Chelsea in a deal worth £48million ($64.1m) plus £2m in easily achievable bonuses.Villa did not wish to sell Tielemans and had offered him new terms, but had little choice in the sale due to the release clause in his deal.“It’s hard to describe just how proud I am to join Manchester United,” Tielemans said. “Signing for such a special club feels incredible, it is the culmination of years of dedication since I first fell in love with football.“I have had the privilege of experiencing success in the game and it has only increased my determination to achieve more.
