The president wants to share his boasts and grievances more widely with us.

When presidents deliver rare prime-time addresses to the nation, there is usually an obvious topic and some news (or at least spin) that the White House wants to convey. On April 1, for example, Donald Trump sought to deliver a progress report on the Iran war, though it wound up being more of a recapitulation of his earlier rather shaky explanations of why he chose war in the first place.
