The wife of a Serbian passenger who was injured during an emergency on a Ryanair flight from Thessaloniki has described how she clung to her husband as cabin decompression partially pulled him through a damaged window.

Speaking to Serbian news outlet Nova, Svetlana Grković said she and her husband, Ljubiša Karović, had been dozing during the flight to Germany when they heard a loud bang.

“It was as if part of the engine had broken off and hit the window next to my husband,” she said. “When the window broke, there was decompression. The pressure pulled Ljubiša out. Luckily, he was wearing his seat belt, but half his body was outside the aircraft. I grabbed his legs and thought, ‘If we die, we die together.'”

Grković said fellow passengers rushed to help hold her husband until the aircraft returned safely to Thessaloniki. She recalled that he lost consciousness several times during the ordeal.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the incident.
