NewsUK NewsInquestsMum-of-two Jaqueline Watkins, 66, had been feeling unwell for several days before attending a GP surgery, where she collapsed in the waiting room and died15:49, 14 Jul 2026A mum collapsed and died at a GP surgery after waiting days for an appointment, an inquest has heard.‌Jaqueline Watkins, 66, had been feeling unwell at home for several days and contacted her GP practice to be seen by a doctor.‌The mum-of-two was given an appointment later in the week, but collapsed while sitting in the clinic's waiting room.‌An inquest which opened at Gwent Coroners' Court today heard that despite efforts from medical staff to save her, Ms Watkins was pronounced dead at the Llanyravon Surgery near Cwmbran, South Wales.Dog-lover Ms Watkins, who lived in Llanyravon, had called the surgery earlier in the week, but the earliest appointment they could give her was 3pm on Thursday June 18, reports Wales Online.‌She attended her appointment and collapsed in a chair at the surgery while waiting to be called. Her family have raised concerns that there were "missed opportunities" in GP care that need to be investigated.A post-mortem examination was carried out, but no medical cause of death was given at the brief hearing on Tuesday morning.Ms Watkins' family said: "We have many unanswered questions about the advice and care given."Article continues belowRose Farmer, area coroner for Gwent, said an inquest will be held in March next year.In a tribute posted online, Ms Watkins was described as a "lovely lady".
