State secretary of the Communist Party of India (CPI) M. Veerapandian led a rally here against the Mekadatu project, calling upon the Karnataka government to immediately halt the plans for a dam and respect the Court orders on water sharing between the States.The protest rally of the CPI alongside its affiliated farmers association, Tamil Nadu Vivasayigal Sangam, underlined that Tamil Nadu recognised the rights of the people of Karnataka. The Left party urged the Karnataka government to similarly recognise the rights of the people of Tamil Nadu.Addressing the rally, Mr. Veerapandian said the Mekdatau project threatened to ruin the fraternity enjoyed between the people of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka and this long-standing cordiality between the people of the two States must be protected.Hosur stood testimony to the camaraderie among the people of all States residing here. There remained the fraternity between the people of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, but the Karnataka government’s position threatened this, the CPI leader said. “All we are asking is to respect the rulings of the Courts and help alleviate drought in the Delta.”Earlier, the rally was stopped by the police on Thally road.
