The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) on Tuesday (July 14, 2026) accused the State government of failing to address the agrarian crisis and neglecting the interests of farmers in Rayalaseema region.Addressing the media in Vijayawada, YSRCP State general secretary Gadikota Srikanth Reddy alleged that the government had not responded adequately to the drought conditions. He claimed that three months into the kharif season, farmers were unable to begin sowing due to inadequate rainfall and a lack of irrigation water. He further alleged that no contingency plan had been prepared and no review meetings had been held to assess the situation.Mr. Srikanth Reddy stated that, with no prospect of water release from the Srisailam reservoir, the government had failed to protect farmers’ interests. He also alleged that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu was focusing on political attacks instead of addressing the issues raised by the opposition. The YSRCP leader questioned the utilisation of funds raised for Amaravati, alleging that the government had failed to launch major new development projects while the State’s debt continued to rise. He further alleged that the Cabinet was prioritising action against political opponents and social media activists instead of addressing public issues. Referring to the arrest of Nagarjuna Yadav, he described it as politically motivated and raised concerns over the government’s handling of the agrarian crisis and other issues.Former Uravakonda MLA Y. Visweswara Reddy, meanwhile, alleged that sections of the media had misrepresented his remarks made during the YSRCP Rayalaseema Lift Irrigation Task Force meeting. He claimed that the previous YSRCP government had prioritised irrigation projects for Rayalaseema and alleged that the present government had shelved the Rayalaseema Lift Irrigation Scheme under pressure from Telangana. He stated that his clarification was intended to prevent the public from being misled. Published - July 14, 2026 07:13 pm IST
