SportOther SportsConor McGregorDustin Poirier, who has fought Conor McGregor three times, appears to be revelling in the Irishman suffering an injury against Max Holloway14:39, 14 Jul 2026Dustin Poirier has branded Conor McGregor a 'dirtbag' after his UFC comeback ended in injury.‌McGregor returned to the cage last weekend for the first time since he broke his leg in his trilogy fight with Poirier five years ago. But his comeback lasted all of 69 seconds when he injured his knee and the fight was waved off.‌McGregor now faces surgery and another lay-off, but Poirier has hit out at the Irishman, and questioned his decision to start the fight with a flamboyant and seemingly unnecessary kick. “I thought it couldn’t have happened to a better guy," he said. "That injury couldn’t happen to a better guy. I saw earlier this week, he said, ‘Karma’s a mirror,’ and it definitely is, man.‌"This guy’s a dirtbag, and I don’t know if it was nervous energy, I don’t know why you would start a fight like that, they’re saying this was planned to start the fight like that. There’s footage of him training to open the fight with this jump kick, but I just don’t understand why you would do that. That’s like a Hail Mary. You’re throwing a Hail Mary to start a fight, start a 25-minute fight. I don’t understand what was going on with that."‌Despite his comments, Poirier is willing to welcome McGregor back again for a fourth fight. “I’ll tell you what, whenever he is healed up, hit me up Conor,” he added. "I’ll come back and whip you again." McGregor insists he will fight out the remaining bout on his UFC contract but revealed he must first go under the knife."Surgery. Prehab.
