Lebanon and Israel held a sixth round of direct peace talks at the US embassy in Rome, the first since signing a framework deal last month.

The central dispute concerns "pilot zones," where the Lebanese army would take control and oversee Hezbollah's disarmament in exchange for Israeli withdrawal.

Israel has continued daily attacks on south Lebanon, killing more than 4,300 people since the war began, while demolishing homes in occupied areas.

President Joseph Aoun is set to meet Donald Trump in Washington on 21 July to press Lebanon's case for a full Israeli withdrawal.
