As technology transforms the way law is practised and public trust in institutions continues to be tested, South Africa’s legal leaders will gather at the inaugural Legal Indaba Conference to discuss the future of the profession and the role it plays in safeguarding democracy.
Artificial intelligence (AI), judicial accountability, governance, ethics and public trust will headline discussions at the conference, which takes place on August 28 at the Birchwood Hotel and OR Tambo Conference Centre in Boksburg.
Held under the theme, “Advancing Law. Inspiring Change.”, the conference will explore how the legal profession can adapt to rapid technological change while strengthening constitutional democracy, institutional accountability and ethical leadership.
Among the key issues on the agenda are the growing influence of artificial intelligence and digital innovation on legal practice, governance and institutional accountability, transformation within the profession, economic development through law, and the legal sector’s role in advancing social justice.
The conference will also examine challenges within the profession itself, including mental health and wellbeing, retaining legal talent, women’s leadership, diversity and inclusion, and the expanding opportunities presented by alternative legal careers.
