Lithuanian lawmaker Saulius Skvernelis, who is under investigation in a corruption case and has been ordered to wear an electronic monitoring bracelet, said Tuesday that the probe has become politically motivated.
“The case has taken on a political dimension, and the actions taken over the past several months clearly show that we now have a political case,” Skvernelis told reporters at the parliament.
He said he had initially believed the investigation would be impartial and objective but no longer expected that.
As previously reported, a court this month tightened the preventive measures imposed on Skvernelis, requiring him to wear an electronic monitoring bracelet. The lawmaker has appealed the decision.
Skvernelis said the court strengthened the restrictions after he had “formally” violated an earlier order requiring him not to leave the country and not to communicate with certain individuals. He declined to specify how he had breached those conditions.
