The U.S. Navy announced that a naval blockade of all Iranian ports and coastal areas will commence at 23:30 Tehran time on Tuesday, July 14, and will apply to all vessels, regardless of the flag they fly.

The command stated that this action will encompass the entire Iranian coastline, including the country’s ports and oil terminals. U.S. President Donald Trump announced in a post on the Truth Social platform on Monday, July 13, that the naval blockade of Iran would be reinstated and that its implementation would begin immediately.

Trump also stated that, from now on, the United States would be known as the “Guardian of the Strait of Hormuz” and would collect a 20 per cent fee on the value of all transiting cargoes in exchange for securing the waterway.

In response to these remarks, Abbas Araghchi, the Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic, wrote in a post that Trump was “absolutely right” regarding the need to compensate for the cost of securing the passage of commercial vessels through the Strait of Hormuz.

Araghchi added: “Iran has always been the guardian of the Strait of Hormuz and will remain so forever.” Regarding the 20 per cent share announced by Trump, he wrote: “Twenty per cent is, of course, excessive. We will be fair.”
