Inmates held in Unit 2 of Ghezel Hesar Prison in Karaj refused to accept their food rations on Monday, July 13, in protest against the transfer of six death-row prisoners to solitary confinement ahead of their scheduled executions. According to a report by the Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), prisoners in the unit launched the strike through a collective refusal of prison meals.

Based on the published details, the protest action was initiated immediately after six inmates at Ghezel Hesar Prison, previously sentenced to death on drug-related charges, were moved to solitary confinement cells for the implementation of their sentences.

HRANA has previously documented multiple instances of protests and hunger strikes by groups of Ghezel Hesar inmates in response to the carrying out of death sentences.
