Webtoon Productions and Madrid and Los Angeles-based Espotlight have signed a first-look deal to develop Spanish-language film and TV adaptations of Wattpad webnovels, expanding a partnership that has already produced the internationally released “Boulevard” with Sony Pictures International.
Under the deal, Espotlight will receive a first look at Spanish-language stories published on Wattpad, giving the production company access to a pipeline of digital-native IP with established readerships. The partners will jointly identify and develop projects targeting Spanish-speaking markets and wider international audiences.
The pact follows their collaboration with Sony Pictures International on “Boulevard,” based on Flor M. Salvador’s Wattpad series, which has generated more than 160 million reads. The film opened theatrically across Spain, Latin America and the U.S. in April 2026 and is now streaming worldwide exclusively on Prime Video.
“We are delighted to join forces with Webtoon Productions after our fantastic run with ‘Boulevard,’ both theatrically and on its worldwide platform release on Prime Video,” said Anxo Rodríguez, founder and CEO of Espotlight Media. He described the film as “the first of many titles” the companies hope to explore together.
