These things can be found lying around your house and can work wonders on bringing the temperature down09:46, 14 Jul 2026The country is experiencing another spell of hot weather. With the UK set for sweltering conditions to last a little bit longer, the hunt for finding ways to cool down has never been more crucial.‌Most people will still be reaching for more ice in their drinks, ice creams for dessert, and even water fights with a hosepipe after a long day at work, sweating. But Lynsey Crombie, aka The Queen of Clean, shared how the freezer can become one of your best friends during a heatwave. From helping you cool down to making cleaning a little more comfortable, there are a few unexpected items that deserve a place alongside your frozen food.‌Here are four of her favourite freezer hacks to help you beat the heat this summer.‌Your hot water bottleThis has to be one of my favourite summer hacks.Fill a hot water bottle with cold water, making sure not to overfill it, then place it in the freezer. Once frozen, wrap it in a pillowcase or towel before using it to keep cool in bed or while relaxing on the sofa.Top safety tip: Don't use the same bottle for hot water again afterwards. Freezing can weaken the rubber and increase the risk of it splitting when filled with boiling water. It's best to keep one specifically for cooling.‌A damp tea towelWet a clean tea towel, wring it out well and pop it in the freezer for a short while. When you need to cool down, drape it around the back of your neck. It's ideal if you've been cleaning, gardening or simply can't escape the heat. It's one of the quickest and easiest ways to lower your body temperature without turning the fan up even higher. This is also a great trick for cooling dogs down too.‌A microfibre clothThis is a great trick if you're tackling quick cleaning jobs during a heatwave.Dampen a microfibre cloth slightly, place it in the freezer for around 20 to 30 minutes, then use it to wipe down sticky fridge shelves, kitchen worktops or other surfaces. The chilled cloth stays cooler for longer, making cleaning feel much more comfortable on a hot day.Your beauty toolsIf you use a gua sha, reusable eye mask or facial roller, try storing them in the fridge or freezer.‌They're so cooling first thing in the morning, especially after a warm night. Chilled tools can help reduce puffiness and give your skin a refreshing wake-up call.Don't forget about frozen peas!A bag of frozen peas can work wonders in a heatwave. Wrap a bag of frozen peas in a tea towel and pop them on your hot feet to cool down.Lynsey's top tipYour freezer isn't just for food.
