More than 1,500 people are diagnosed with blood cancers annually, but very few access CAR-T
Bulgaria is laying the groundwork to introduce CAR-T cell therapy, one of the most advanced cancer treatments available. Still, patient groups warn that access may remain severely limited unless the government develops a sustainable funding mechanism for the costly therapy.
The government has begun building the necessary infrastructure, relying largely on EU funding, the health ministry told Euractiv.
Sofia is using part of the €220 million allocated under the Recovery and Resilience Plan to develop the technological capacity needed to administer the therapy. For now, these efforts are concentrated in the capital.
