And why did they never have children?‌Here’s everything you need to know about Clive and Catherine’s romance.Clive Myrie on meeting his wifeClive and his furniture restorer and upholsterer wife, Catherine, first met in the early nineties at a book launch when Catherine worked in publishing.‌“I met Catherine, who then worked in publishing, at the 1992 London launch of a book about Swiss cheeses," he explained. He added, "It was love at first sight for me."Going from strength to strength, in 1998, they got married in a ceremony at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Covent Garden.Clive added: “I’d just been made the BBC’s LA correspondent, so after returning to the UK for our big day, we flew back to the States before honeymooning on Venezuela’s Maracaibo coast.”‌Clive Myrieon his 'reserved' and ‘shy’ wifeDespite generally being quite private, Clive has been vocal in his gratitude to his wife for giving him the "courage and space to pursue his dreams." However, Catherine and Clive are quite different; seemingly opposites attract.In an interview with Express.co.uk, he was asked whether Catherine had gone with him on his Italian odyssey, to which he said: "That was part of the plan, possibly to be on camera but possibly not. She's actually quite a reserved, shy person, unlike her husband.‌"But the hope was she was going to come over and at least spend a little bit of time with us, but we had builders in, so we couldn't do it, and we have been waiting for these builders for a long time, and my wife is quite particular, so not this time."Why Clive Myrie and his wife didn’t have kidsSpeaking previously, Clive shared that although he and Catherine planned on having kids, after a stint of trying to conceive, they didn’t manage to get pregnant‌In a previous interview with The Times, the broadcaster explained that he and his wife, Catherine, initially planned to have children after they married in 1998.“We were trying for a child, nothing seemed to be happening, and then we ended up moving and realized that it would be quite unfair, because we just love traveling so much," Clive explained to The Times.He added, "We gradually decided it wasn't really right for us. We come from such big families [Catherine is one of five siblings], our get-togethers are always huge."‌Clive then revealed that he and his wife do not regret pursuing a family, adding: "We've led a full and happy life, and we dote on our nephews and nieces."Clive Myrie’s wife’s health scareAt the end of 2025, Clive opened up about Catherine’s health battle over Christmas, revealing she was fighting a lung infection.‌Chatting to Romesh Ranganathan on BBC Radio 2, Clive shared: "It's been a quiet Christmas, which was nice. Very nice, I spent it at home with my wife Catherine, who had a seriously bad lung infection, would you believe?"He went on to describe how the ailment influenced their festive choices, saying: "So, it meant that, first of all, we couldn't drink any booze, which was a bit of a problem, it was shocking."On a more sombre note, Clive revealed the pair took the tough choice not to see family members because of the potential dangers.
