Apple has claimed in a US federal lawsuit that OpenAI engaged in a “strategy” at “every level” to steal its trade secrets related to hardware products.
“At every level, from members of its Technical Staff to its Chief Hardware Officer, and in coordination with business partners, OpenAI has been stealing Apple’s trade secrets and confidential information,” alleges Apple’s lawsuit, which was filed on 10 July in Northern California federal court.
OpenAI denied wrongdoing.
Hardware plans
The case is a U-turn in the relationship between the two companies, following on a multiple-year partnership that has seen OpenAI’s ChatGPT integrated into iPhones since 2024.
