Meanwhile, the United States Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that its forces began a third consecutive night of strikes against Iran on Monday evening, Eastern Time, on the orders of the U.S. president.

CENTCOM stated in a press release that the attacks commenced at 4:45 p.m. Eastern Time. The operation aims to impose heavy costs on the Islamic Republic’s forces and degrade their ability to attack civilians and commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.

The statement noted that U.S. military operations would continue and were being carried out to weaken Iran’s operational capacity to threaten commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
