Actor Alia Bhatt has joined Sohum Shah’s Tumbbad 2, the makers announced on Tuesday (July 14, 2026). Directed by Adesh Prasad, the sequel to the 2018 acclaimed horror film also stars Nawazuddin Siddiqui in a pivotal role.Speaking about joining the film, Alia said in a statement, “Tumbbad has stayed with me ever since I first watched it. Very few films create a world that feels this original and immersive, and even fewer continue to grow in people’s imagination years after they’ve released. That’s what makes this opportunity so exciting.”Sohum added, “Having Alia Bhatt come on board for Tumbbad 2 is truly delightful for all of us. She is undoubtedly one of the most talented actresses of this generation, and I am sure the audience will get to witness something unique with her in the film. We have all witnessed her incredible performances on screen right from her debut. This is my first collaboration with her, and I am genuinely looking forward to working together.”Tumbbad 2 is produced by Sohum Shah in collaboration with Jayantilal Gada’s Pen Studios. It is set to be released in theatres on December 3, 2027.Tumbbad 2 was officially announced by Sohum in September 2024. The sequel is set in the world created by the first film and Rahi Anil Barve, who worked on Tumbbad, is not associated with Tumbbad 2. Rahi is working on a separate trilogy of films, comprising Tumbbad, Pahadpangira and Pakshitirtha.Meanwhile, Alia was last seen in Alpha, alongside Bobby Deol, Sharvari and Anil Kapoor.
