“Daily Show” host Jon Stewart on Monday said President Donald Trump delivered a very unusual eulogy for his close friend and ally, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), who died on Saturday at the age of 71. Trump called into Fox News on Sunday to share how often Graham called him.“He would call me all the time,” Trump said. “I’d say, ‘Stop calling me, Lindsey.’” Stewart broke out his Trump impression.“I’ll never forget the way that I always let him go to voicemail,” he said. “It was our thing.” Stewart wondered if any poignancy would follow Trump’s joke ― then played a series of clips of Trump knocking Graham on everything from his golf game to his failed 2016 presidential campaign. “I wanted to see the war with Ukraine end very quickly. I think he was more into, y’know, keeping it going, frankly,” Trump said in one clip. In another, he added, “He was a total workaholic politician. Some people don’t call that work. Some people call that a lot of talking.” Once a Trump critic and rival, Lindsey Graham eventually became close friends with the president, as seen in this January 2026 file photo aboard Air Force One.Photo by Joe Raedle/Getty ImagesStewart was silent for a full 10 seconds after the clips.“I think the president has zoomed through the first five stages of grief,” he finally said. “And gone straight to number 6: ‘Fuck that guy.’” But one thing stood out even more than Trump’s bizarre remembrances of Graham, and that was the fact that Graham was the sixth member of Congress to die this term.“If this were any other business, they’d shut it down to figure out what the fuck is going on,” Stewart said. “Gas leak? Serial killer? Six of them are dead! My God, those are Petco gerbil numbers.”“What, do they just come into Congress every morning with a shovel?” he added. “What the fuck is going on down there? It’s not like the job is dangerous. They’re just sitting there.” Then, Stewart took a closer look at the more significant problem with the nation’s leaders: They’re very, very old.“We don’t have a system that rewards experience and competence and performance. We have a system that rewards incumbency,” he said. “These people aren’t brilliant. They’re fucking barnacles, utterly incapable of addressing a world moving much faster than the speed of ‘Matlock.’” Check it out in his Monday night “Daily Show” monologue:RelatedDonald TrumpFox NewsLindsey GrahamJon Stewart
